Built to last. Made responsibly.

Sustainability at Balquire is not a policy. It starts with the materials.

1. Rattan — the most sustainable choice

Rattan is one of the few truly renewable materials in furniture manufacturing. It grows fast — some species up to a metre per day — without requiring replanting, deforestation or heavy processing. Harvesting rattan actually supports the health of the forest it grows in. Every piece in our Woven collection starts here.

2. Certified and responsible wood

Where we work with wood, we source certified timber from Indonesian suppliers who operate under government-regulated forestry programmes. Teak and suar — also known as acacia — are our primary species. Both are known for their durability, which means furniture that lasts decades rather than years. Longevity is its own form of sustainability.

3. Made to order — nothing wasted

We don't manufacture speculatively. Every piece is made for a specific project, to specific dimensions, in the quantity required. No overproduction, no warehouse full of unsold stock. It is a slower way to work — and a more responsible one.
